My Story
You may ask…. why is the American Heart Walk so important to me?
During the Fall of 2009, I had been suffering from what I thought was mild chest tightness, which resulted in me noticing it was difficult to walk any major distances because of coughing. I waited a few days and consulted with my family Doctor. During a routine in-office EKG, it seemed like there were concerns with the results. I was referred to the Cardiologist the same day for a nuclear stress test. Long story short, thanks to their swift diagnosis, I was directly sent to the hospital where my Cardiologist placed 2 stents in my heart that evening (December 3rd, 2009).
My late Father had a history of heart disease and unfortunately, he died due to experiencing his 2nd heart attack on July 7th, 1991 at the age of 52. Here I was at the age of 46 having had 2 heart stents placed. I was only 6 years younger than my Dad when he passed.
I feel I am very blessed to have received my heart stents ‘in the nick-of-time’, since heart disease is hereditary in my family and I was suffering from a majorly blocked artery. My father did not get the opportunity to have stent placement back in 1991. My stent placements were definitely a life-saving treatment and I am eternally grateful to my medical team who caught this in time.
Through help from my Cardiologist, Doctor and their teams we worked together to help me take control of my health. With regular exercise, healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.
I hope everybody will participate in the Heart Walk because you never know when you’re going to need help.
The American Heart Walk raises money for heart disease and stroke research, public and professional education and community service programs. The event also is intended to raise public awareness about heart disease and the heart healthy benefits of walking.
I am healthier than ever before and feeling great
