I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives. And because I am a Stroke Survivor.
In January 2023, at the age of 28, I suffered a stroke due to a neck injury. Even with a trip to the ER and being with medical professionals when the stroke occurred, it took 10 days and a second ER to finally be diagnosed and have treatment begin. I had to advocate for myself more than what I should have to receive the services and health care I desperately needed. I have experienced first hand the need for further education and research surrounding strokes.
My new personal stroke recovery goal is to walk a 5k and this seemed like the perfect one.
