Hello, I’m Samantha Volkens, a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and cardiac arrest survivor, as well as an employee of the American Heart Association (AHA). My journey began with a congenital heart defect that was misdiagnosed for the first 19 years of my life, leading to open-heart surgery in 2019. Today, I continue to live with CHD and diverticulum of Kommerell (a type of aortic aneurysm), under the care of an AHA-membered cardiologist.
I am deeply dedicated to the AHA’s mission, working every day to better my own life and the lives of others affected by heart disease. I advocate for new and emerging science and technology to improve treatments for congenital heart disease and aortic aneurysms.
Participating in the Heart Walk is my way of raising awareness and support for the AHA's incredible work. This cause is personal to me, and I believe in the power of community and progress. Join me in walking with purpose and passion toward a future where heart disease is not a life-defining condition but a testament to resilience and hope.
Thank you for your support and generosity. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
