Hi everyone! This year, I’m fundraising for the American Heart Association’s Denver Heart Walk this year on behalf of my dad. If you can’t donate at this time, I encourage you to learn more or become certified in CPR - you never know when it may save someone’s life. You can read my dad’s story below:
In July 2009, 4 days before my 10th birthday, my dad suffered a cardiac arrest while at the gym. There were only 3 other people there, one of which was a doctor, who recognized what was happening immediately. He began performing CPR and 20 minutes later, my dad’s heart started beating again.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital, die. My dad was a lucky one. The internal cardiac defibrillator (ICD) inserted that day, along with 3 heart surgeries, has saved his life 9 additional times. In November 2023, my dad suffered a severe stroke as a result of one of his cardiac arrests from the previous summer. He was in the hospital for over 3 weeks and while life drastically changed, his sense of humor is still very much intact!!
I graciously ask you to donate any amount you can to this cause. “Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people have trained in lifesaving CPR, more research, and more lifesaving moments for everyone”.
