We are asking for your support of, and/or participation in the American Heart Association’s Annual Heart Walk in San Antonio held on November 9th the TAMU campus in San Antonio.
I have a story to tell! 14 years ago, one of our co-workers at MAREK collapsed in the lobby of complete cardiac arrest! It was a traumatic event for all of us to say the least. But, the event occurred in the presence of another employee that instinctively cried out for help, and fortunately, some us had CPR training, and were able to help. After calling 911, we began CPR. EMS arrived in less than 10 minutes and took over. The happy end to the story is that our co-worker survived, in fact thrived once she fully recovered. She is now happily retired and living a full life.
I can’t say that we saved her life, but I am certain that we helped. Statistics tell us that 80% of cardiac arrests happen outside of a hospital setting, and 92% of those victims don’t survive because bystanders don’t step in to perform CPR!
With funds raised from the AHA Heart and Stroke Walk , the AHA has trained 52,000 adults and teenagers in CPR! This statistic alone is strong enough to warrant my support of this worthy cause.
Please consider joining us for the Walk or providing support in the form of a donation to continue the good work of the American Heart Association.
