For the past 17 years, I've worked as an advocate at the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. At the local, state and federal levels our government relations teams work to get laws passed that impact cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health. Personally, my work has supported smoke-free policies, healthy school meals for all (free lunch in schools), pulse oximetry (heart defect) screening for newborns, the Affordable Care Act, CPR training as a high school graduation requirement and more.
Our investments in scientific research has saved lives - we funded the development of the first heart/lung machine making open heart surgery possible, pioneered CPR, and early career funded the scientists who later created lipitor - which has enabled millions to live longer lives.
Our community programs have reached communities and kids across the country, providing important information and resources for healthy nutrition and physical activity.
Please join me and support our work to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
Thank you!
