I almost died 10 years ago from AAA - an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Doctors saved my life during surgery, and following six weeks in intensive care and the hospital, over a year of rehab, and a total lifestyle change, I am a different man. Today, I weigh 125 pounds less. I am a dialysis patient because of the AAA, and have become a staunch proponent of healthy eating and daily exercise. I appreciate each day of my life. I am grateful to the doctors and nurses who saved me and continue to care for me. I am grateful to my friends and family who supported me through all of this - and continue to do so.
Last year I was honored by winning the American Heart Association's Lifestyle Change Award from the San Diego Chapter. I hope my actions have encouraged others to live a healthier life.
This is my ninth year walking in the Heart Walk and raising funds for the American Heart Association.
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide and stroke ranks second globally. Please join my team, The Beat Goes On. If you can, please donate today and help us change these statistics.
This year the HeartWalk is virtual, but your help can be real.
Thank you for supporting me and the American Heart Association.
