Why I walk: My Journey as a Cardiac Nurse
As a cardiac nurse for my entire career, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating effects that heart disease can have on individuals and their families. Every day, I see the toll that this illness takes on patients, their loved ones and their communities. My work has given me a profound understanding of just how critical heart health is, and it has fueled my passion for making a difference.
I chose to work with heart patients because I beleive deeply in the power of lifestyle factors and exercise to prevent a multitude of diseases. I've seen the incredible impact that simple changes, like regular physical activity and a heart-healthy diet can have on overall health and well-being. This is why I am so commited to the mission of the American Heart Association and why I participate in the Heart Walk.
Heart and vascular disease have affected me personally as well. My grandfather suffered a major stroke that impacted his quality of life for his last 15 years. Additionally, both my grandmother and mother passed away from heart failure. These personal losses have only strenthened my resolve to fight against heart disease and to advocate for prevention and awareness.
The Heart walk is a chance to raise awareness, support vital research and advocate for healthier lifestyles that can save lives. By participating, I hope to honor my patients and their famillies, who inspire me with their courage and resilience every day. I also walk to support the ongoing fight against heart diseas, to promote CPR awareness and training, and to contribute to a future where fewer lives are lost to this preventable disease.
