Metro Service Foreman/Estimator/Marketing Jimmie Moreno suffered a heart attack on October 27th, and he wanted to share his story with all of you in hopes that others will take the time to take care of themselves and make their health a top priority.
Most people who know Jimmie were shocked to hear this news. If you know Jimmie, he is always moving. He is a hard worker who is always helping his friends, family, and his community.
On October 18th he started experiencing some pressure in his chest. At first, he thought he strained a muscle while on a job. With all the recent fires lately, he also thought the smoke in his lungs was just affecting his asthma. He went on with his day but continued to feel about 2-3 of these chest pains throughout the day. His wife, Patricia encouraged him to call the doctor, but Jimmie kept working. Two days later he was doing some work in his yard and was sweating more that usual, and he thought it was just heartburn and that it was just hot outside. Again, his wife asked him to go to the doctor, but Jimmie kept working. On the morning of October 27th Jimmie went to work as usual, his first stop was in Manteca and then he headed to Stockton. While at Unified Grocers he was walking around in the cold storage and his chest began to hurt bad. This time was worse that all the previous pains he was experiencing. He assumed it was from being in the cold, so he went to his van and turned on the heater. He called his wife and she said you are going to the doctor now!
Jimmie went to his primary doctor and they sent him to St. Joseph's hospital by ambulance for testing. As they were doing the testing the doctor told Jimmie he was having a heart attack. Jimmie said the strangest thing is that he felt nothing. The doctor informed Jimmie that his arteries were closing up due to plaque build up and it was restricting the blood flow. The doctor told Jimmie there were clogged up due to his eating habits. They scheduled surgery for the following day. Jimmie had two stents put in and is now on a treatment plan that includes medication, more exercise, and healthier eating habits. His doctor asked him to try and work on losing 20 pounds and three weeks later, Jimmie has lost 12 pounds by walking 30 minutes everyday and changing what and how he eats. In the past few weeks, he has felt a significant change. He is feeling much better and progress is going well. Jimmie is also a diabetic and he thought the numbness he was feeling in his hand and feet were due to the diabetes, but it turns out it he just wasn't receiving the proper blood flow due to the clogged arteries. Jimmie encourages everyone to try and plan your lunch and bring healthy snacks, so you don't go for the fast food and energy drinks because they are quick and easy. Drink water and do not skip lunch. Your body and brain need that nutrition throughout the day.
