I never thought that at 41 I'd have a stroke, but I did and it changed my life in a lot ways. All of them good. I'll never forget May 6, 2021, and I have a feeling that some of the doctors I work with in Anatomic Pathology won't either. They jumped into action and got to me to the ER at the main UofU hospital STAT (Shortest ambulance ride ever!). I like to think I'm lucky, I was in the right place if you're gonna have stroke (don't have one, but if you do a hospital isn't a bad place). I know that there are several reasons why today no one would ever think, "that guy had a stroke". Yes, I was able to get the help I needed super fast, but more important than that, I was able to recognize the signs. That is why supporting this cause is so important to me. Stroke awareness is the best way to save people from having life altering effects due to a stroke. I hope that everyone can learn something from my story and be aware of the signs of a stroke and hopefully if you're ever in a situation where someone is experiencing one, you'll be able to jump into action (just like some of my pathologists did) and get them the help they need and save a life.
