anything cardiac related is near and dear to my heart. My mom had a heart transplant in 2006. Doctors used a heart that had been on life-support for too long, but she was a perfect match and wasn’t going to survive much longer without it. Her heart was a perfect gift from God, and 19 years later, she has never experienced any form of rejection. Since then, we have discovered our family has a cardiomyopathy gene that is unique to our family. My brother and I have it as well as my niece. Both my brother and I are on medications to strengthen our hearts, and for that we are incredibly grateful. Thanks to all the advanced science and monitoring, those of us in the family with the cardiomyopathy gene can be treated well in advance, and hopefully never progress the way my mom did. I will be participating in this heart walk to support the AHA with my coworkers from the cardiac floor. Anything you can donate to this event, please do so in my mom‘s honor.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today.
