9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
This year I am participating in Alaska's heart run/walk. Please consider donating today.
I don't talk about it much but back in 2022 I had COVID-19 which led to a heart attack. Little did I know at the time that there was a direct link between Covid and heart attacks.
It was a regular morning, Ray and I got up to go to the gym, and I mentioned to him that morning that I had a pain in my chest. We got to the gym and I told him I didn't think I'd work out because I was feeling pretty bad, I would just take a shower and head to work. After my shower, I decided I better go to the hospital because the pain seemed to be getting worse. I thought I pulled a muscle. Imagine my surprise when I get to the hospital and they tell me I'm having a heart attack. Ray and I went to the gym every day. I did lots of cardio exercise, and ate healthy. Thankfully, it turns out that the heart attack wasn't severe, but the damage was already done. I now have an irregular heartbeat and bradycardia.
Heart health is so important so please make sure you're paying attention to the signs of a heart attack.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today.
