Life looks a little different a year later. My dad had another instance of going into a-fib and being hospitalized / monitored for a few days, just in recent months. If you've been around since college, you may remember a time when my dad had his first cardiac health scares and wore a heart monitor for a couple years. Through the support of and access to a great medical team, he's been able to continue living healthily without one. Now, he's reviewing options with his medical team in Washington.
If it wasn't for the research, advocacy, and community health work done by the American Heart Association the last hundred years I don't know where my dad would be or what this journey over the past 8+ years would look like. But I'm so grateful that I don't have to find out.
I walk (not just because it's my job) but because I know that with every step, I am saving lives. Through our work of advocacy, education, research, and funding other community health initiatives, the differences we make everywhere but especially here on the islands is monumental. I am proud of what we do and hope you'll join me. I could talk all day about our local impact - don't hesitate to reach out!
