April 5, 2024, is a day forever etched in my heart. I lost my beautiful mother suddenly to cardiac arrest. She was loving, strong, and my best friend.

More than a decade earlier, I lost my father to the same thing-cardiac arrest. Losing both parents so young to heart disease is a painful reminder of just how common and serious heart-related conditions are, especially for Black and brown communities, and for women.

This walk is deeply personal.
I've also faced my own journey with heart health. After developing preeclampsia during pregnancy, I now live with chronic high blood pressure. So I'm not just walking to honor my parents-I'm walking for my own health too.
