I walk for the American Heart Association (AHA) to help raise money for life saving cardiovascular research. As we have in previous years (and many of you have supported us before), Soraya, Clare, Rhett and I will be participating in the Puget Sound Heart & Stroke Walk.
I am extra passionate and proud about raising money to help finance the AHA's mission, because they fund one of the many exciting project in my lab, which you can read about here.
Heart health has become even nearer and dearer to our family since my Dad suffered a series of strokes in the Autumn of 2022, while visiting us in Seattle. UW wrote a beautiful article about this, which you can check out here. The most likely culprit in Dad's case was an arrhythmia (AFib) that went undetected, possibly for several years. Dad has recuperated beautifully and is as strong as an ox. September is AFib Awareness month, so it's even better timing.
Lastly, you might be interested in reading this feature the UW College of Engineering wrote about work in my lab and several others, focused on "Engineering Heart Health". We think it turned out great!
Thank you in advance for your generosity and your enduring support!
