I and a business colleague had been seated at steakhouse in an upscale downtown hotel for less than 10 minutes and had just received glasses of water when a woman 30 feet away slumps out of her chair onto the floor. I've been trained multiple times - once every 2 to 5 years - in basic first aid and CPR. I wish I could say that I instintively went into life saver mode, but that is not what happened. Although I've been trained I do not drill or practice to create "muscle memory". Fortunately, other bystanders did jump into action and performed CPR until first responders arrived. I do not know the outcome after the patient was transported.
According to the AHA 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed, but we can change that. Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields, and in restaurants everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
Join me for the Phoenix Heart Walk annual Sundt fundraiser to raise awareness, and raise some money to save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more cardiac health research, and more lifesaving moments. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
Help me reach the Sundt Building Group goal and together let's blow past the Sundt Foundation goal of $25,000.
