I am walking because my story is deeply personal.
I walk for my family—many of whom live with type 2 diabetes. I’ve seen how this disease quietly weaves itself into everyday life, changing routines, shaping choices, and demanding constant vigilance. I’ve watched loved ones manage medications, monitor blood sugar, and carry the weight of a condition that is so closely tied to heart health. This walk is my way of standing beside them, showing support, and helping raise awareness so future generations may have fewer barriers to living long, healthy lives.
I walk in honor of my dad. He spent his final days in the cardiac ICU, and his loss forever changed me. Every step I take is a tribute to him, to his memory, and to all the families who have sat in hospital waiting rooms praying for more time. I walk so that research, education, and prevention can spare others from that same heartbreak.
I walk for my daughter. I want her to grow up in a world where heart health is prioritized, where prevention is accessible, and where she has the knowledge and support to live a long, full, and vibrant life. I want her to see what it looks like to turn love into action and loss into purpose.
And I walk for myself. After experiencing preeclampsia and facing the very real risk of postpartum stroke, I learned firsthand how closely women’s health and heart health are connected. My experience was a wake-up call—one that reminded me that caring for my heart isn’t optional, it’s essential. Walking is a declaration of survival, resilience, and a commitment to my own well-being.
This Heart Walk is not just miles on a path—it’s a journey through my past, my present, and my hopes for the future. I walk with love, remembrance, determination, and hope that together we can build healthier hearts for everyone.
