In life, it is easy to take one’s health for granted, until you are faced with a life-threatening disease.  Little did we know that our young 25-year-old, vivacious, loving nephew, Vincent Alexander, would be called home while undergoing emergency open-heart surgery.  It was discovered that “Vinny” had a rare heart disease that was undiagnosed.  This is one of the reasons I am walking to bring awareness to heart disease and fundraising to support early detection, prevention, and advance medical treatment.  A few months after the passing of my nephew, my husband of 30+ years also had open-heart surgery due to a genetic condition.  The procedure was a success and blessed that he is back on his feet, enjoying life with our boys and granddaughter.
