I walk because I know that with every step, I’m making a difference in someone’s life. I walk for all the heart and stroke patients I have cared for over the last 25 years. On a personal level, I walk to honor these amazing individuals:
1. Sean Sauter (age 56), my brother who suffered a massive MI in April 2024. Fortunately, he survived and received 13 cardiac stents and an implantable defibrillator.
2. Philip Ball (age 54), my "brother from another mother" and a dear friend who unfortunately suffered a detrimental MI in June 2024. Philip left behind a wife and two school-aged children.
3. Kelene Thome (age 55), my friend and nurse colleague who suffered an MI in April 2026. Despite life-saving measures with CPR when she was found unresponsive by her son, Kelene suffered an anoxic brain injury and was subsequently let go. She left behind four children and a small grandchild.
Combined with a million other Heart & Stroke Walk Heroes across the nation, we have an even greater impact toward curing heart disease and stroke. Will you be a Heart Walk Hero with me?
