Why We Walk
2021 Bay Area CA Heart Walk
FR - LSPS
As your Wellness Champion, I love supporting any initiative that gets us out of our chairs and outdoors for some healthy exercise. Studies have shown that daily exercise can improve cardiovascular health, sleep, and mental and physical stamina. This is especially important for the members of this department, because we have desk jobs that can easily lead to a sedentary lifestyle.
On a personal note, I still remember the day in 7th grade when my dad suggested that I start running after school to get in shape for my upcoming Little League season. I was overweight, asthmatic, and unable to run from my house to the street corner. I wanted to feel healthier and stronger, so I gradually started a plan of near-daily exercise which I've maintained ever since, and now, many years later, I'm preparing to hike Half Dome and training for my 20th half-marathon. Most importantly, I feel a lot better now!
Fortunately, you don't need to do any hiking or running to be a successful Heart Walker! All you need do is sign up here and walk roughly three miles or one hour on or around September 24, 2021. We, your Heart Walk coaches, will never pressure anyone to come into the office. However, any colleagues who are in the SF office on September 24 are more than welcome to join me for a three-mile walk along the Embarcadero in the middle of the day (exact time and route to be determined).
Michael Lineweaver, Christina Li, and I are excited to be your Heart Walk coaches this year- please reach out to us with any questions!
Thank you for your support,
