Piper Jones made her debut on August 3, 2023. We were immediately placed in the great hands of a CHOC team that gave Piper the care that she needed for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a congenital heart defect where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped and unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. 76 days and 1 open heart surgery later, we were thrilled to bring her home and introduce her to her pug and other family members.
After 3 whirlwind weeks at home, Piper's heart started to fail. We returned to CHOC and were soon transported to UCLA for a more complex second open heart procedure. This surgery completely transformed her for the better and she has been excelling ever since.
Thanks to the outstanding care from her CHOC & UCLA surgeons, nurses, cardiologists, physicians, OTs, PTs, feeding therapists, respiratory therapists, transporters, and many more, we can say that Piper is a fighter and a survivor.
We are also so grateful for our family, friends, MemorialCare and Mazda support systems, and heart community that have shown nothing but love.
We walk in support of critical research. We walk to save lives, like Piper's.
