This year I am walking in honor of my Nana. In my first years of life in Massachusetts my Nana was an active part of my life. Regularly babysitting me while my parents worked.
My Nana was loving and nurturing. She also lived with heart disease. Shortly after my family moved to CA my Nana, still in MA, suffered a stroke. She suffered several strokes in her last years of life and ended up living her final years in a nursing home. Sadly, my most vivid memories of my Nana were visiting her in the nursing home.
Unfortunately, women have a higher risk of stroke. Strokes kill more women than men, in fact one in five women will have a stroke.
That is why this year I am walking in honor of my Nana. To raise money for stroke awareness, prevention, and recovery. Because losing one woman to stroke is too many. I’m raising money so that others can have more time with their Nanas than I did.
I invite you to join me by donating today.
