As many of you know, I have a personal connection to the American Heart Association- I work for the organization leading community impact initiatives in San Diego. But I have an even deeper connection to the AHA...
7 years ago, my father (pictured above in the left-hand corner) had a 100 percent blockage of his left anterior descending (LAD) artery, causing what is very famously known as a widowmaker heart attack.
He was lucky enough to get the care he needed, and quickly, and survived with the placement of a stent. He continues his journey with heart disease after this major event, working to live a longer, healthier life.
Did you know that the American Heart Association supported the research that led to drug-eluting stents?! This is the kind of stent that my father, and millions world-wide, have that help keep their arteries continually open for blood flow. The AHA supports so much important research and many amazing community programs that help save lives and raise awareness for heart disease and stroke.
I can't imagine if we had lost my father that day; he would have never made it to see me earn my master's degree, get married, or even turn 30 years old.
That's why this year I’m walking in the San Diego Heart and Stroke Walk to raise funds to support much-needed research and education in communities all across this country. This year, and every year, I’m walking for my Dad.
If you would like to support my efforts and the AHA's larger efforts, please hit donate now above or email me if you would like to send cash/check. Every little bit makes a huge difference in lives everywhere.
