5 years ago I lost my best friend, sister, and personal hero, Jennifer Ann (Haines) Dahl, to undiagnosed heart disease. She was 42, in a job she enjoyed, raising a 9 year old daughter with her husband with another babe on the way.
In the moment, none of us could have known what fate would have in store for Jen and us. However, looking back, I can see the small signs and wish I had known then what I know now. That her chronic heart burn could be something else more serious. That her exhaustion and inability to do much activity wasn't because of the baby she carried. Her dizziness was more than being dehydrated.
My pain, and our pain as a family, has become a personal mission to help others to not have to experience what we did. Now, I can help someone to get checked, to know the signs of heart attack or heart failure, or fund research to find early and cost effective detection. I will still carry the sadness that Jen didn't get to spread more joy with the world, but we can try to prevent Heart Disease from hurting another family
