I walk for 2 reasons. First, in memory of my father, who was a heart disease survivor for many years, after a successful triple bypass surgery when he was 50. Because heart disease runs in the family and his grandfather died of a heart attack, he was certain he wouldn’t live beyond 50. He proved he was a fighter and went on to live to 69. Second, I walk to support continued research and advancements, which is making it possible for my ex-husband to live a longer life with significant less risk of a heart attack from his aortic aneurysm. Last year, he bravely took preventative measures by having open heart surgery to implant a mechanical aortic heart valve. Technological advancements that have been made over the years are nothing short of life changing for many. I am excited to see what life saving discoveries are made next.
