I walk for the American Heart Association (AHA) to help raise money for life saving cardiovascular research. As we have in previous years (and many of you have supported us before), Soraya, Clare, Rhett and I will be participating in the Puget Sound Heart & Stroke Walk.
More than ever this year, I am passionate about raising money to help finance the AHA's mission, because as of earlier this year they are funding an exciting new project in my lab, which you can read about here.
Heart health has become even nearer and dearer to our family since my Dad suffered a series of strokes about two years ago this week. UW wrote a beautiful article about this, which you can check out here.
The most likely culprit in Dad's case was an arrhythmia (AFib) that went undetected, possibly for several years. Dad has recuperated beautifully and is as strong as an ox. September is AFib Awareness month, so it's even better timing.
Lastly, you might be interested in watching this super cool video UW made about my lab and the research that we do. It's the best publicity material anyone has ever made about our work, I think!
Thank you in advance for your generosity and your enduring support!
