I walk this year to celebrate my family's health and just how precious each moment is we have together. For my mother, who continues with her 2 year fight against lung cancer and atherosclerosis. For my sister, who has reclaimed her life and her health by making choices that enable her to be present with her kids. For my dad who takes his blood pressure medicine daily and for my brother who is pledging to get better sleep. For my husband who's pumping iron and strives to be in the top 10% of riders for every Peloton ride he takes and for myself as I strive to reclaim my rhythm and get back to my health after having babies... all of this matters so that we can live long healthy lives and be there to take a precious family photo with all the grandkids.
This year, I also walk to honor the life of my late brother-in-law who suffered a massive heart attack at just 41 years old last fall after coming down with COVID. He left behind a loving wife, two beautiful children, a sister and parents who will miss those memories they longed to build as his life was cut short.
I walk because I know that with every step, I’m making a difference in someone’s life. And when combined with a million other Heart & Stroke Walk Heroes across the nation, we have an even greater impact toward curing heart disease and stroke. Will you be a Hero with me?
