I'm walking because I am a SURVIVOR!
Unfortunately, some people are no longer around to share their story. I'm one of the lucky ones. However, I don't consider myself lucky. I consider myself Blessed.
February 8, 2024, my life changed forever. What started as a wheeze and was initially diagnosed as 'asthma' turned in to me being rushed to emergency surgery and receiving a new aortic valve (mechanical). I also received a bonus pacemaker a week later. February 14th to be exact! How ironic for all of this to happen in the month of February, American Heart Month.
Moral of my story is to be proactive and advocate for yourself. You know your body better than anyone else. If something doesn't feel right, get checked. And get checked again and again if needed. Don't wait or 'brush it off.' Had I waited or accepted it if you will, my initial diagnosis of 'asthma,' I probably wouldn't be here to share my story. Growing up with asthma I knew this wasn't asthma. It was something else and that 'asthma' turned out to be a very serious issue with my heart and the aortic valve. Listen to your body. You know it better than anyone else. You are your own medicine!
I've set a goal for this walk and I have about 100 days to try and meet that goal. Your donation really matters. Spread the word and ask your spouse or partner, ask your boss or company, ask you neighbors and friend for me. It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers and celebrate more stories like mine.
I Walk to Save Lives. Save lives like mine. Help me reach my goal today. Letsgooooo!
