I am very honored to serve on Phoenix American Heart Association Board! Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the United States. Unfortunately it has claimed the lives of many close to me including my Dad, my brother Rob and friend Chuck Curtiss, all who passed suddenly prior to age 60. Two years ago, my sister Virginia suffered a heart attack. As with many women, Virginia did not recognize her heart attack symptoms!! Luckily a persistent EMT convinced her to be checked out where they confirmed that she was having a heart attack. After four stents, Virginia is doing very well. But this incident reinforces the need for additional education. We need to do more to prevent heart disease from prematurely taking the lives of our family members, friends and business associates.
