When I began sponsoring a team for the annual San Francisco Heart Walk eight years ago, I never imagined in later years that I would be confronted with making healthcare decisions for my dad as the result of a debilitating stroke. The stroke left him with an exceedingly small chance of survival and if he did survive, he would have life altering limitations. My dad not only beat the odds and survived, but through extensive rehabilitation he overcame many of the disabilities caused by the stroke and lived independently before passing in late 2021. This year, I am dedicating my participation in the Heart Walk to my dad who I miss dearly.
