Natalie ‘Nata’ Marie Fírmín-Chavez was born to Catherine (Fisher) Forgione on August 31, 1995. Encouraged by her mother and loved ones, she soaked in culture like a sponge through her roots as a Mexican-German American, her insatiable thirst for travel and adventure, and her life-long pursuit of knowledge.
Whether in a kitchen, at a farmer’s market, digging through a garden, or behind a screen, Nata graced her community with creativity and talent. All who met her, even if for a moment, witnessed her genuine love for life and infectious sense of self-worth. They’ll remember the food eaten, karaoke sung, laughs shared, and photos taken.
On September 28, 2024, Nata’s spirit became one with the Earth due to a rare congenital heart condition, one that sees very few survive to adulthood without surgical intervention in early childhood. Nata defied all odds and lived her 29 years of life to the absolute fullest.
To honor the life she lived, the LOCAL team is raising money for the American Heart Association, and our co-founder, Neil Bedwell, is training to run the New York Marathon to bring awareness to the cause and Nata’s memory. The AHA works tirelessly to keep American hearts beating healthily and happily, and we believe helping to raise money for their noble cause is something our dear friend and co-worker would be proud of. Her spirit lives on in every delicious tamale and fresh bunch of cilantro, every dance floor that plays her favorite songs, and every sunflower that blooms extra bright.
While Neil may be the one actually Running for Nata, you too can help honor her memory by sharing her story and donating whatever you can to the AHA on her behalf.
We thank you for your support and encourage you to keep Natalie in your hearts.
