Five years ago, I severely broke my ankle in a trimalleolar fracture—breaking it in three places. The injury was so serious that they initially couldn't operate, and when my surgery went forward, doctors used two plates and fourteen screws. For months, I couldn’t walk, and there was no guarantee I would ever run again.
This year, I will run my first marathon—the New York City Marathon—in the city I love most. I felt compelled to run because it falls on the five-year anniversary of my injury, to the day!
I'm so proud to support the mission of the American Heart Association to help more people access the care, education, and resources they need to live longer, healthier lives. Becuase I lost my grandfather to a stroke caused by heart disease, this cause is close to my heart.
