Heart disease and conditions of the heart touch so many people across our country--millions of Americans live with heart disease, or experience a stroke or stroke or a cardiovascular condition. The American Heart Association works to save and improve lives by focusing on research, education, and emergency care.
I have a family history of heart disease, so raising awareness and fundraising on behalf of the AHA is personal to me. When I was 4 years old, my grandfather, Joseph Englot, died of a heart attack. His son, my dad Peter Englot, has worked very hard throughout his life to make sure that he is eating and exercising in a way that is heart-healthy, and I am constantly inspired to mirror his hard work, as I know this is my struggle too. We have both at different times had hypertension and high cholesterol, and we will continue to work hard throughout our lives to improve our health.
I hope that by running this race and speaking openly about my own experience with heart disease that I can encourage others to learn more about how changes to your environment and your lifestyle can reduce your risk. Heart disease is 80% preventable--let's be proactive!
Thank you for supporting the AHA!
