In memory of my beloved Grandmother, I will be running the Lawyers Have Heart 5k in Boston’s Seaport District on June 25th to support the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S., with stroke following closely behind as the third leading cause. Did you know that every 1 in 4 deaths in the U.S. is caused by heart disease, while approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke in the U.S. each year? Since 2008, Lawyers Have Heart has brought together 1,800 participants from over 95 law firms and companies in the Boston area. Lawyers Have Heart in Boston has raised more than $1.4 million to benefit the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, whose mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
As some of you may know, my grandmother, Josephine Kelly, suffered a sudden stroke and passed away on March 15, 2018 at the age of 77, leaving behind her husband of 60 years, 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and an extensive circle of family and friends. Gone too soon, this loss has left an unimaginable void in our lives and in our hearts but it is our great hope that advancements in medical care, research and awareness may help to save the life of someone else someday. Your friendship, love and support has meant the world to my family and me over these past few months, and I’m so grateful for the kindness and generosity from all of you.
I have committed to fundraising $500, and I hope you will join me in supporting the research, education and awareness initiatives of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
