Running is not something I'm prone to do. Walking yes. Stairs yes. But running takes a long time and is boring. It would take a cause that is important to me to get me off my large behind to actually attempt to run 3+ miles.
Enter the Lawyers Have Heart 5k. I'm sure many of you know, but in 2017 I stupidly ignored warning signs of chest tightness, pain in my left arm and sweating for two weeks, then went into the office for two calls despite having chest tightness from the time I woke up that day before finally deciding to take myself to the ER. Turns out, I had a minor heart attack resulting from three arterial blockages, one of which was 99% blocked. Since that time, I have taken exercise more seriously, have lost 25 pounds since the cardiac event and have made efforts to reduce stress (I'm not sure how successful I've been on that last one!). I was lucky despite my stupidity, but so many lawyers get themselves in terrible shape due to overeating, limited exercise, increased alcohol intake and stress. The work that the American Heart Association does to educate and promote heart heathiness is tremendous and I'm thrilled to play a very small role in support their efforts.
Thank you for supporting American Heart Association. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
