At the age of 38, shortly after completing my first marathon, a breakthrough came regarding the unexplained symptoms I had been experiencing for over two decades. The diagnosis was left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC), a congenital heart condition, and chronic heart failure. This marked the end of a long journey filled with numerous doctor visits and tests, where my concerns were often overlooked or dismissed. Although I had been seeking answers, these particular diagnoses were far from what I had hoped for. Over the last two years, I've dedicated myself to understanding everything about LVNC. Choosing to fundraise for the American Heart Association and participating in the New York Marathon represent my journey towards embracing my diagnoses. It's a declaration that, while my condition is a part of me, it doesn't define my entire being.
I appreciate having discovered the power of running and overcoming my health challenges. While my speeds for the 5k and half marathon may remain similar, the resilience I've gained from running is invaluable. Thank you for your encouragement and support in my journey, which also benefits the American Heart Association. Your generosity means a lot.
