In June of 2022, my older sister, Gwen, passed away from a sudden cardiac arrhythmia at just 17. The tragedy left my family and I in shock as we grappled with the immense hole that Gwen's contagious kindness and empathy once filled. The loss of Gwen made me realize how unique the bond of sisters is and how important it is for me to be surrounded by strong-minded and passionate women. This ultimately led me to running, where I found a new sisterhood among my teammates, all of whom reminded me of Gwen. Practice soon became a haven for me, whether it was long runs spent debriefing our lives or sprint repetitions with rests filled with highlights and low moments of our days. The tight friendship that came with this team guided me through the hardest period of my life, and I credit running with providing me with a community that I desperately needed. With running being such an important part of my life, being able to run the Chicago Marathon for the American Heart Association feels so special as they continue to do incredible work to ensure people can live long and healthy lives. Thank you so much for supporting the American Heart Association. Your contribution goes a long way!
