Hello! My name is Jen Szatko and I have been running for 5 years. This year's Chicago Marathon is the 3rd marathon that I have participated in. I am honored to have been chosen to run under the American Heart Association's Charity bib! It is an organization that I hold near and dear to me. Being a Surgical Cardiothoracic Registered Nurse, I see how important it is to educate patients and to support the programs in facilities to provide the best care the communities deserve. Everyday, I work with talented surgeons and nurses who perform various heart surgeries that save lives and give so many a second chance at life. In addition to working in cardiac services, I am also a patient! I have hypertension and am constantly working alongside my primary physician to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to keep my pressures in check.
This organization gives me the opportunitity to honor my grandfather, both grandmothers, father, mother-in-law, and my professor from nursing school. All of whom have suffered from heart disease and/or stroke. I honor them by participating in races, like this one, to help raise money to bring awareness, education, and further research.
I thank you for donating to such a wonderful organization and to help me reach my goal! As I cross the finish line in Chicago, I'll remember you and your generousity!
