This October I will be running my 3rd marathon and my first Chicago marathon in honor of my best friend and mother, Karen Carten. This past May, my mother passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack, she was 61 years old. My mom had a contagious heart for life, and everyone and anyone loved my mother for everything she was as a person. My father Chris, little brother Christopher and myself, never imagined a life without our mother. She was beautiful inside and out, and we will miss her forever.
With that, my mother supported me with everything and anything I ever set my mind to, especially when it came to running. I can't remember a race my mom didn't come to, she was my biggest cheerleader. In 2016 I ran my first Boston marathon and in 2017 I ran my first New York City maraton, she was my biggest spectator. My mom was and will always be someone I admire inside and out. With that, I am running to raise awareness for heart disease and the many people who are affected unexpectedly at such a young age like my mother. I am running for my mother, my biggest cheerleader and best friend. Although she will not physically be there, I know she will be there in spirit with a giant smile on her face.
For those who loved my mother as much as I did, I hope you help support this awesome organization and my mother so I can cross the Chicago marathon off my list, in honor of Karen. I am excited for the big day and I know in my heart my mother will be with me every step of the way. Thank you in advance for your donation of any amount and support, it means more than you ever know. Let's do this mom!
