I completed my first full marathon 2 weeks ago! After finishing, I jokingly asked “What’s next?!”…
I'm happy to share with you that what is next for me is running the Chicago Marathon! And even more importantly, I’m running the Chicago Marathon with The American Heart Association in honor of my Mother-In-Law, Joan Florig. As many of you know, we lost Joan to a stroke almost exactly one year ago. As I began to think about ways to honor and remember Joan at this time of year, it became very clear to me that I wanted to run this race for her. I’m partnering with The American Heart Association to raise $1,750 to join the fight against our nation's No. 1 and No. 5 killers — heart disease and stroke. Your donation will help fund lifesaving research, advocate for better health, improve patient care and reach at-risk populations.
Joan was strong, loving, beautiful, independent and never backed down from a challenge. In many ways she shaped the family I became a part of (and in big ways, the man I married) and as a family, we continue to live with her inspiration and spirit. I fully intend to carry that spirit with me through and far beyond the 26.2 miles of the Chicago Marathon.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider donating. Your small donation will help in a big way.
"I run because I can. When I get tired, I remember those who can’t run. What they would give to have this simple gift I take for granted, and I run harder for them. I know they would do the same for me.”
