Heart disease or stroke CAN happen to you!
During peak fishing season in July of 2014, I had open heart surgery to replace my failing aortic valve which was causing aortic regurgitation, and weakening my left ventricle.
Although I thought I felt fine, my valve was only working at one-third capacity and was causing the wall of my left ventricle to weaken, thin, and become enlarged. If left untreated, I likely would have suffered a catastrophic failure or my heart would have weakened to the point where the only remaining option was a heart transplant.
Thanks to participation in events like this, donations like yours, and technology; experienced doctors were able to extend my life and allow me to be present for my wife, kids, family, and others in need.
My scar reminds me of all the other people who had heart surgery before me, and the amazing power of the medical experts we have. I'm very thankful for their experience and dedication to care for others.
Each day we can work to get stronger, tougher, and faster than the day before.
