The American Heart Association is an organization I am very passionate about and have participated in an annual fund raiser in Myrtle Beach, SC for the past six years. Every 34 seconds someone dies from heart disease in this country. Heart Disease and stroke are the #1 and #5 cause of death in the US. Chances are you know someone affected by one of these two. This year will be the 42nd Annual American Heart Association Beach Ride where nearly 1200 horseback riders from across the country are raising money in support of the American Heart Association in Myrtle Beach, SC. I am one of those participants and am proud to help.
My father had a heart attack 20 years ago and will be 90 in January. Without the research that had been done by the American Heart Association, I don't believe he would be here today. This year is especially near and dear to my heart because just a couple of months ago, my husband Kevin, had a heart attack and nearly died. We are thanking God first and foremost but also the American Heart Association for the advancement in treatment that provided my husband the opportuinity to live a full life without open heart surgery. I am so very thankful that these two amazing men are still in my life and also for the advances made in medicine that provided my husband and father the ability to be back to themselves, living full lives. Every dollar is important to this ever evolving research, education and prevention.
