I began riding horses eight months ago. So why am participating in a 20-mile horse ride on the beach in the winter?
Let me tell you why I am riding.
I am riding to do my part in helping to raise money for reseaarch in honor of my family members who battle heart disease.
I am riding in memory of the family members I've lost to heart disease and heart-related illnesses. Many in which I never had the chance to meet.
I am riding for my Mom who was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia at a young age and has battled high cholesterol her entire life.
I am riding for my Grandma who had a heart attack when she was 41 years old and who still suffers from high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
I am riding for my Grandpa who is pre-diabetic and battling to keep his high cholesterol under control.
I am riding for my Aunt who is 38 years old and has high blood pressure.
I am riding for my Dad and his oldest brother who were diagnosed with Atrioventricular (AV) Node Dissociation.
I am riding for my PawPaw who has had numerous heart attacks and has been battling heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure since his 30's.
I am riding for my MawMaw who has high blood pressure and diabetes and has for many years.
I am riding for my Great Nana who struggled with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabeties. Who had open-heart surgery when she was 67 and who passed away at the age of 69 from a massive stroke.
I am riding for my My Great, Great Grandpa who died of a heart attack at age 41.
I am riding for my Great Grandpa who after fighting for our country in WWII, then had to fight daily to keep his diabetes under control before he passed away from cancer in 1996.
I am riding for my Uncle who passed away at the age of 44 from a heart attack.
I am riding for my Mamaw who struggled with diabetes, and high blood pressure for many years before passing away.
I am riding for everyone who struggles with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
I am riding for everyone who has had strokes and/or heart attacks.
I am riding in memory of everyone who has battled with heart disease but ultimately lost their fight.
I am riding to raise money for research with the hopes that one day it will put an end to heart disease.
This is why I am riding.
Thank you for listening to why I am riding and raising money for The American Heart Association.
