Jack Monroe started the American Heart Association Beach Ride thirty-seven years ago at Myrtle Beach, SC to raise money to support heart disease research and treatment. The ride is a 20-mile ride on horseback along the beautiful South Carolina coast line. This event occurs the beginning of November and is a site to behold with typically 1200 horses trekking along the beach beginning early on a Saturday morning. Many visitors stand and wave as the parade of horses and riders pass by. At manmade watering holes, riders and horses engage with the visitors as they often like to pet the horses and find out about the ride.
Six years ago, Team Noah was formed by a group of friends that Robbie and I rode with each year at the annual AHA Beach Ride. See our grandson, Noah, had been born a week earlier with congenital heart defects. Noah was flown from Greenville Hospital to MUSC in Charleston and had lifesaving surgery the day before the ride began. Our friends wanted to know what they could do so Robbie told them to pray and tell everyone how heart disease can affect the weakest and most innocent among us! And that they did! They formed Team Noah, had Team Noah t-shirts made, had a huge banner banner about Noah’s condition made and got interviewed by the local TV news! They also raised a good bit of money in a very short time! Our family was blown away by their effort and support!
Team Noah has grown from a small group of loyal riders to a dynamic group of over 70 riders. Each year since Noah’s birth, he and his family have come to the ride. Under Grandpa Robbie’s leadership and “Uncle Tony’s” (as Noah calls him) superb fundraising skills, Team Noah has raised more than $100,000 dollars. Please join us by contributing to the American Heart Association and fight heart disease! Help us celebrate Noah’s sixth birthday! We do this because of heart research supported by AHA!
Thank you for supporting Team Noah!
