"We ride for life..."
This is why I ride...this is my story.
I am a retired Paramedic. I have seen first hand what cardiovascular disease and stroke can do. I have seen lives taken away in a moments notice without warning. I have seen those who have suffered for many years. I have family and friends whose lives I still morn. They did not know they were at risk. I have family and friends who are currently battling daily for their lives. I have sped lights and sirens to emergencies to provide care for someone having a heart attack or a stroke. I have done chest compressions on people whose names I didn't know. I have taken the call from the doctor saying, "Your grandfather is in cardiac arrest. there is nothing more we can do for him. We would like permission to cease heroic efforts." I have made that decision.
I wish there were away to erradicate this disease instantly. There is not. But the American Heart Association has made it their goal to reduce carsiovascular disease deaths by 20% by 2020. That is coming up soon.
If I can make a difference in just one life...if I can keep sirens from coming to your house or someone from needing cpr or I can help assure that some who needs cpr will get it, or if I can keep you from recieving that phone call or having to make that decision for someone you love...well, that is why I ride. That is my story. --Kim
