In early 2024, I unexpectedly suffered a stroke. When I arrived at the hospital, I initially thought I might be overreacting to a pulled muscle. I anticipated a quick return home, but instead, within hours, I lost function on my left side—something I never imagined. I spent months in therapy, relearning basic tasks like walking, eating, and self-care.
Though I've made remarkable strides in my recovery and continue to work hard, I still notice minor deficits in my daily life. I share my story to raise awareness because strokes can affect anyone at any age. Recognizing the signs and symptoms can empower individuals to advocate for their own health or that of loved ones.
Heart disease is still the no. 1 killer and stroke ranks no. 5 in our nation.
