The Latin name for a raccoon is Procyon lotor meaning "pre-dog washer", which is derived from the fact that they are kind of like dogs and they dunk all foods/fun treasures in water. The reason they do this is not actually to wash said items, but because they have as many nerve endings in their little doll hands as primates, and putting them in water helps to discern the items more clearly! Kind of like when you lose that tube of chapstick in your bag that you thought you put in there before that one camping trip last summer and you finger around for it only to find that mascara you thought you lost on that night out at that seedy bar downtown.
