This October, I will be running my first marathon in honor of my dad, Scott Sheedlo. I am joining the Chicago Marathon Run with Heart Team to raise money for the American Heart Association.
In 2022, my dad passed away from cardiovascular disease at the age of 52. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Statistically, 1 in 3 Americans will lose their life to cardiovascular disease; because of this, I wanted to support the American Heart Association as they raise awareness about heart disease and focus on prevention.
My dad was an avid runner and coached cross country for many years. I grew up watching him encourage runners to be their best selves on and off the course. He inspired me to start running, and it became a shared passion of ours. He was always the biggest supporter of my running goals. Although marathon training will be difficult, I know he would be proud of me. I believe it is the perfect way to honor his legacy.
Thank you for joining me in support of the American Heart Association. Together, we can make healthier, longer lives possible for everyone.
