I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
Did you know that more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur ourside of the hospital each year? If performed immediately, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival from an out of hospital cardiac arrest.
Unfortunately two years ago I was witness to a close friend go into sudden cardiac arrest. It was early the morning after her 21st birthday as we realized she was not breathing and I rushed to call 911 as her sister began attempting to perform CPR until responders arrived. Thankfully God was watching over her that day and the EMS were able to resuscitate her, however it was an experience I was unprepared for and will never forget. She has been my motivation to get trained in CPR through the classes offered by JMS and AHA, and my motivation to walk with the AHA at the heart walk. We can truly save lives.
