Every year, hundreds of thousands of women experience heart attacks ? and many don?t even realize it until it?s too late. One day, I became one of those statistics.
Almost seven years ago, my life changed in an instant. At 36 weeks pregnant with my son, I had a heart attack. While my baby thankfully remained safe, my road to recovery was long and difficult. In the days that followed, I learned that I was also living with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) ? a condition that causes an abnormally fast heartbeat and affects about 2 in every 1,000 people, with women being more likely to experience it, especially during pregnancy.
What many don?t realize is that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, and pregnancy can put an incredible amount of strain on the heart. It?s a reminder of just how important it is for us to care for ourselves ? to eat well, to honor our bodies, and to listen when something doesn?t feel right.
Today, I?m proud to share that after years of perseverance, lifestyle changes, and support, I am off all medications and thriving. Walking in this event is not only a celebration of that journey, but also a way to raise awareness for women?s heart health and support others who may face the same struggles.
This cause is deeply personal to me, and I walk for every woman, mother, and daughter who deserves a healthy heart and a strong future. ?
